The chapel in the village is a small light-grey building dating from 1939. It was designed by Ove Leijonhuvud and was the gift of Helge Ax:son Johnson. It contains a famous altarpiece by the artist Axel Sjöberg. A model ship, a so-called votive ship, hangs from the ceiling as a reminder of the influence ships and boats have always had on Öja.
